A little history

Acton was known as 'Soapsud Island' in the Victorian era due to the concentration of laundries serving London's wealthy West End households. The area transformed with the arrival of the Tube and became one of West London's most diverse communities.

Local tip

Acton Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays has excellent fresh produce. The High Street has a genuinely diverse food scene that rewards exploration. Horn Lane for independent shops.
